The US and EU egg producers are committed to stop euthanizing hatched layer cockerels due to global animal welfare concern. To comply with the global animal welfare concern, the company is seeking for sex determination technologies in-ovo (before or during early incubation period). The company wants to be able to identify male and female pre-hatch, layer in particular. By doing so, the egg producers would be able to manage their operation more effectively, comply with global concern of animal welfare and reduce the overall production cost.
The company is in the agribusiness where its core businesses include agriculture, food processing and livestock development.
The non-invasive determination of pre-hatch sex has to be able to:
(i) Determine the gender of the embryo in-ovo (before or during early incubation period)
(ii) Male embryo will not be allowed to further develop, while female eggs will be incubated
(iii) Increase operation efficiency
(iv) Comply with global concern of animal welfare
(v) Reduce the overall production cost
