AUTM Asia 2016, the gateway for academic research institutes, industry and technology transfer professionals was held from 16 to 18 March 2016 at Chiang Mai, Thailand. Focused on promoting technology transfer and exploring IP opportunities in Asia, the event was attended by over 300 participants representing 25 countries. AUTM Asia 2016 provided an excellent platform for global and regional technology transfer professionals to share best practices and insights into technology commercialisation and the opportunities in the emerging market in Asia.

Dr Sze Tiam Lin, Director, IPI was invited by the National Science, Technology & Innovation Policy Office (STI), Thailand to speak on Emerging Trends in Technology Management specifically, on the topic of technology and competitive intelligence to support decision-making in the technology commercialisation process. He highlighted the need to develop systematic processes and tools to define, gather, analyse and communicate actionable intelligence to aid decision-making in evaluating R&D projects, managing technology disclosure and IP portfolio, developing go-to-market strategy and finding licensees, licensing negotiations, assessing gap funding, IP valuation and Open Innovation.
