CapitaLand has launched the inaugural CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge (CXSC) to call for innovative proposals from all over the world to make buildings more climate-resilient and resource-efficient.

The challenge has four themes, which are:

1)     Low Carbon Transition

2)     Water Conservation & Resilience

3)     Waste Management & Circular Economy

4)     Healthy & Safe Buildings

Two winners will each stand a chance to secure up to S$50,000 in project funding, mentoring by a CapitaLand business leader and the opportunity to kickstart a viable pilot, test and implement innovations with CapitaLand. 

Technology Specification

The CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge (CSXC) is a global platform to advance innovation and collaboration in sustainability within the built environment. Through the CSXC, CapitaLand aims to source for emerging solutions/technologies globally to solve sustainability challenges impacting our business and accelerate our progress to meet CapitaLand's 2030 Sustainability Master Plan targets.

From 10 November 2020 to 1 February 2021, the CapitaLand Sustainability X Challenge is calling for proposals across the globe to make buildings more climate-resilient and resource-efficient focused on four key areas: (i) low carbon transition; (ii) water conservation & resilience; (iii) waste management & circular economy and (iv) healthy & safe buildings. 6 shortlisted participants will undergo mentorship and coaching to refine their proposals for the Grand Finale pitch. Shortlisted participants will present to a panel of judges during the Grand Finale in May 2021.


Solutions should address one of the following challenge statements:

 #1 Low carbon transition:

How might we achieve onsite clean energy solutions for existing buildings?​

#2 Low carbon transition:

How might we achieve significant reduction in energy consumption for existing buildings?

#3 Water conservation & resilience:

How can we adopt new ways of managing water in existing properties in order to detect abnormalities in the water usage pattern and/or leakages? ​

#4 Water conservation & resilience:

How might we reduce potable water usage in existing buildings with water harvesting and/or recycling methods?

#5 Waste management & circular economy: 

How might we better segregate waste at source for recycling or treatment?

#6 Waste management & circular economy: 

What is a viable circular economic solution that CapitaLand can introduce to manage resources and waste across CapitaLand properties and construction sites?

#7 Healthy & safe buildings: 

How might we improve indoor air quality (IAQ) to enhance wellness of users in our existing buildings?
