TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

Robots are being deployed to carry out tasks that are Dull, Dirty, Dangerous, Demanding, Distant and Distributed (Six D's), but they lack intelligence, dexterity and/or human touch. The haptic telerobotic system integrates technologies from different organisations to allow for remote manipulation/teleoperation. Operators wearing the haptic gloves can control the robot hand at a safe distance, or even in another room or vicinity. The robotic hand will be able to mimic the hand and arm movements of the operators to handle and complete tasks. Sensors on the robotic hand will relay touch sensations back to the operator who is wearing the haptic gloves, transmitting realistic touch feedback.
