TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

This technology provides a medical microrobot system to treat cerebral, coronary, and peripheral occlusive vascular diseases and prevent embolism. As this technology performs a procedure through the creation of a magnetic force and magnetic torque on a wireless microrobot delivered to the vicinity of the lesion via a secondary magnetic catheter, it can simplify the procedural process and improve accuracy and success rate of the procedure. This technology is applicable to medical robot systems including catheters for interventional procedures.

TECHNOLOGY FEATURES & SPECIFICATIONS

This technology provides a medical microrobot that has a spiral binding structure such that it can drill through thrombus and deliver drug to lyse the thrombus. More specifically, this technology involves the medical microrobot that includes a drilling body, spiral binding body and a system control part. The system control part provides a rotating magnetic field to the magnet located inside the spiral binding body, and controls the spiral binding body to run in spiral motion around the perimeter of the drilling body. In addition, a drilling tip is located at the end of the drilling body, where a drug dispensing hole formed by the drilling, allows the drug within the drilling body to spray in an outward manner.

POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS

  • Medical robot system
  • Catheter

Market Trends & Opportunities

The global market size for catheters, in which this technology is applicable, is approximately USD 13.5 billion in 2019, and is expected to expand to about USD 14.4 billion in 2020. The global catheter market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of about 6.8% by 2024.

Benefits

  • By creating a magnetic force and magnetic torque on the wireless microrobot delivered to the vicinity of the lesion, it can simplify the procedure process and improve accuracy and success rate of the procedure.
  • Since all medical processes can be performed remotely through magnetic drive system and feeding robot system, the medical staff can be protected from radiation exposure.
