TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

Lower back pain is a common ailment in the community. Such ailment is associated with our seating lifestyle. Customising orthopaedic seats is one of the main approaches to address this problem. Additive 3D printing is a potential low-cost and faster alternative approach to make customised orthopaedic seats. However, there is no known prominent commercial entity that provides 3D printed orthopaedic seats. A customizable mathematical model can facilitate the 3D printed seat.

TECHNOLOGY FEATURES & SPECIFICATIONS

The technology is an ecologically validated mathematical scalable-model of an orthopaedic seat that can be customised with convenient home-based measurements such as hip girth, thigh length and body weight  that can be used as input to existing 3D printing facilities.

The present solution is relatively costly, inconvenient and takes time to make customised seats (see Table 1).

POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS

The primary application would be the 3D printing industries that customised orthopaedic furnitures, industries that produces orthopaedic products that require customisation and end users who requires long hours of sitting (e.g. office workers).

Benefits

The technology aims to reduce the cost of customisable orthopaedic seats as compare to traditional technology.

The technolgy also aims to reduce the delivery time of customisable orthopaedic seats.
