TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

Elderly patients often experience difficulty with self-administering of eye medications which may result in medication wastage from instillation of more eye drops to ensure that the medication is delivered into their eyes. Additionally, there is no “one-size-fit” all dispenser in the market that could adapt to different sizes of eye drop bottles and minims. Also current instilling of eye drop directly from the eye drop bottle runs the risk of compromising the sterility of the eye drop bottle. This invention is an eye drop guide (EDG) that includes a magnet fixed to the eye drop dispenser holder configured to be attracted to the magnet in the eye cup housing to form a whole. Flexible and magnetic universal adaptor allows snug fit of various sizes of eye drop bottles and minims. The design feature also includes flexible squeeze levers that allows easy dispensing from stiff minims as well as reducing the risk of contamination due to the tip of the eye drop bottle coming in contact with the eye. Device is co-developed by Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). https://www.techinnovation.com.sg/technologies/detail/T10328

TECHNOLOGY FEATURES & SPECIFICATIONS

A Modular Eye Drop dispenser that ensures the accurate and independent self-instillation of eye medications from various sizes of eye drop bottle and stiff minims. For hygienic purposes, the bottle and minim tip does not touch the eye. The eye drop guide includes an eye cup housing and an eye drop dispenser holder. The eye cup housing includes an eye cup at a first end of the eye cup housing configured to be placed over an eye, a hole through the eye cup housing at a second end of the eye cup housing, and a magnet fixed to the eye cup housing at the second end. The eye drop dispenser holder may include a magnet fixed to the eye drop dispenser holder. The magnet in the eye cup housing and the magnet in the eye drop dispenser holder are configured to be attracted to one another so as to removably attach the eye cup housing to the eye drop dispenser holder that positions a tip of an eye drop dispenser held by the eye drop dispenser holder to pass through the hole in the eye cup housing and into the eye cup for instilling eye drops into the eye.
