Elderly patients often experience difficulty with self-administering of eye medications which may result in medication wastage from instillation of more eye drops to ensure that the medication is delivered into their eyes. Additionally, there is no “one-size-fit” all dispenser in the market that could adapt to different sizes of eye drop bottles and minims. Also current instilling of eye drop directly from the eye drop bottle runs the risk of compromising the sterility of the eye drop bottle.
This invention is an eye drop guide (EDG) that includes a magnet fixed to the eye drop dispenser holder configured to be attracted to the magnet in the eye cup housing to form a whole. Flexible and magnetic universal adaptor allows snug fit of various sizes of eye drop bottles and minims. The design feature also includes flexible squeeze levers that allows easy dispensing from stiff minims as well as reducing the risk of contamination due to the tip of the eye drop bottle coming in contact with the eye.
Device is co-developed by Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) and Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP). https://www.techinnovation.com.sg/technologies/detail/T10328
