TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

While conventional titanium dioxide is a proven photocatalyst in various industrial and commercial applications, such as air purification and sterilisation, it is limited by the need to be activated by ultraviolet light. This technology presents a method to manufacture a modified form of titanium dioxide, that can absorb light at longer wavelengths, enabling it to function under fluorescent light and also in the dark. Under these conditions, this material produces very short-lived hydroxyl radicals and superoxide ions that have been tested to be effective against bacteria, viruses and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
