This heat reflecting coating is based on a different operating principle as compared to other well-known insulating materials such as polystyrene, mineral wool or fibreglass. As a result, the coating has several advantageous features to provide even heat distribution, improve personal thermal comfort, increase energy savings, reduce moisture condensation and lower implementation costs.
When applied on internal wall surfaces, results have shown that 70-90% of thermal radiation is reflected back into the room. Therefore, in the summer months, this coating can decrease the warming of the room, while during winter months, it provides quick and steady warming, decreasing the heating/cooling costs by 20-40%. Its heat insulation efficiency is equivalent to a 5-cm polystyrene external thermal insulation.
This technology has been tested for architectural heat insulation, especially where implementation of other insulation methods is not possible due to monument protection or architectural restrictions (e.g. wall width limitation). Other potential applications include heat insulation of heating and cooling pipes, cold storages, etc. Applications in the rail, marine and aerospace industries are also possible.
