A Spanish SME in the clinical consulting field has developed a biosensor device that recognises the female fertile period by monitoring the biophysical properties of cervical secretion.

Unlike the known antecedents, the new invention integrates the biophysical properties of the cervical secretion into a non-invasive, easy-to-use device that is complemented with software. It has the potential to be a low cost solution that is accessible to the public, to help with fertility treatments in cases of low-quality sperm. The invention aims to provide a greater understanding of the physicochemical properties of fertility recognition.



This non-invasive, easy-to-use device is a biosensor that measures the biophysical characteristics of visco-elasticity, fluidity, and crystallisation of the cervical secretion. The measurements are made by sensors that are distributed in two axes, which are integrated and move coordinatedly with the central part of the device. 

The measurements are captured by software that details what is happening in the cervical secretion. This provides a system of analysis and quantifiable characterisation of cervical secretion, that helps to estimate and improve the different states of recognition of fertility, especially in the quantification of the transition phase of infertility to fertility, and fertility to infertility. 



This non-invasive biosensor helps to identify the best moment of the fertile window. It can be used for diagnosis, and enable treatment of subfertile conditions. This can be used for cases with male factor infertility, sterility of unknown cause, and aid in the study of fertility.

While some 4% of couples have absolute infertility with no chance of conception, one out of every six couples may be subfertile. This is due to reasons such as delays in conception which can be attenuated when they conceive spontaneously or with advice and treatment.
