IoT Development Platform for Wi-Fi and BLE-enabled Devices

Technology Overview

This hardware development kit (HDK) provides a lightweight IoT solution with the convenience of a common toolset and common APIs implemented with the popular FreeRTOS. This IoT HDK for RTOS is based on a highly integrated and commercially available SOC that features an ARM® Cortex®-M4 with floating point unit microprocessor that operates at up to 192MHz with low-power 1x1 802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy support. It is compact in size yet includes all the necessary pin-breakouts to integrate a variety of peripherals and enable development of highly connected applications.

Technology Features & Specifications

The application processor subsystem contains an ARM® Cortex®-M4F MCU and many peripherals, including UART, I²C, SPI, I²S, PWM, IrDA, and auxiliary ADC. It also includes an embedded SRAM/ROM. The Wi-Fi subsystem contains 802.11b/g/n radio, baseband and MAC that are designed to meet both the low power and high throughput application requirements. It runs on a 32-bit RISC CPU that could fully offload the application processor. The Bluetooth Low Energy subsystem contains the Bluetooth radio, baseband and link controller and uses the same 32-bit RISC CPU for the Bluetooth protocols.

Potential Applications

The HDK platform enables developers and device makers to create lightweight Wi-Fi and BLE enabled products for the smart home or smart office.  With this, you can achieve economies across a full range of consumer and business IoT devices.

Potential applications such as home appliance, home automation, smart gadget, IoT bridge and many more.

Customer Benefits

Development board features a highly integrated SoC that features an application processor, Wi-Fi and BLE connectivity and a wide variety of options for connecting peripherals. When ready to go beyond proof-of-concept, consult the technology provider to recommend partners that offer the services you need to get any IoT devices to market.  These partners can facilitate professional prototyping and final product design of both software and hardware.

Further, when prototyping your IoT devices, you may want to collect, sort and visualize the data captured by your prototype. A free cloud-based data service platform (Cloud Sandbox) is provided that enables you to quickly prototype your planned cloud implementation.  Using a RESTful API you collect data from your devices, you can view in a powerful web-based dashboard. The dashboard offers a range of display and graphing options and enables you to control your IoT devices by issuing commands from the dashboard.
