Technology Overview

Phytoremediation is one of the most potentially useful techniques for polluted sites cleaning. An aquatic plant, Eleocharis acicularis (E. acicularis) has very strong fertility and is native plant in Southeastern Asia is used in this technology. E. acicularis is a hyperaccumulator of numerous heavy metals and has been extensively tested. This technology converts the plants to a removable mat that can be easily deployed and managed in field conditions. The mat bioaccumulates the heavy metals in high concentration and does not leached out the absorbed metals. After site has been remediated, the mats can be easily removed and metals can be recovered if required.
