Technology Overview

The portable device generates neutral electrolyzed water (NEW) which is based on sodium chloride solution. The device is supported by a current control unit, pumping system, and electrolytic cell with an inlet, an outlet, an anode and a cathode separated by a cation ion exchange membrane between them.  The novel sanitizing device overcomes the challenges of conventional synthetic sanitizers available for organic foods or food equipment.

Technology Features & Specifications

The technology utilizes a small electrolytic cell to develop an equipment to produce NEW with high yields, that is very convenient and very easy to operate. It can be modified for a large range of flow rates with large operating range of sodium chloride concentration in the feed.

The sanitizing liquid contains free available chlorine (FAC) in a range between 3.5-82.0 mg/L, near neutral pH between 6.46- 7.17, an oxidation reduction potential (ORP) between 805.5-876.6 mV, and yield between 52-122 mL/min. The newly developed NEW has strong bactericidal activity: more than 2 and 6 log CFU/mL reductions for 4 and 40 mg/L FAC, respectively on Escherichia coli ATCC25922.
